About Monitor test

Fill your screen with solid colours, gradients, sharpness patterns and black and white fields to check how it really performs. A full black screen in a dark room shows backlight bleed, a gradient reveals colour banding, and solid colours expose stuck or dead pixels.

How to use Monitor test

  1. Open the tool in full screen so the test pattern fills your display.
  2. Step through the colour, gradient, sharpness, contrast and backlight patterns.
  3. Look for banding, blurry text, washed-out darks or glowing edges, and note which pattern shows the fault.

Frequently asked questions

How do I find dead pixels on my screen?

Run the solid colour screens one at a time in fullscreen and look closely. A pixel that stays black on every colour is dead, while one stuck on a single colour is a stuck pixel.

How do I check for backlight bleed?

Use the all-black screen in a dark room with the brightness at your normal level. Bright patches along the edges or corners are backlight bleed. A small amount is common on many LCD panels.

What does the gradient test show?

A smooth gradient should fade evenly. Visible stripes or steps, called banding, mean the panel or its colour settings cannot show all the shades, which can be a settings issue or a cable limit.
