About Bubble level (spirit level)

Use your phone's motion sensors as a spirit level to check that shelves, frames and furniture are straight. Place the long edge of the phone on the surface and read the bubble and angle. Calibrate on a surface you know is flat, and allow sensor access when asked.

How to use Bubble level (spirit level)

  1. Allow motion sensor access when your phone asks.
  2. Lay the phone flat or against the surface you want to check.
  3. Watch the bubble and adjust until it sits in the centre.

Frequently asked questions

How accurate is a phone as a level?

Good enough for hanging pictures and shelves, but not for precision work. Calibrate on a flat surface first and take the reading from the same edge each time.

Why does the level not respond?

The page needs a device with motion sensors and permission to use them. Desktop computers usually have none, so open the tool on a phone.

How can I check it is calibrated?

Place the phone on a surface, note the reading, turn it 180 degrees and compare. If the two readings differ, the sensor is off a little.
