About Chord transposer

Paste a chord sheet, choose a new key or number of semitones, and every chord is shifted while the lyrics and spacing stay in place. It also suggests capo positions so you can play easier shapes. Use it to fit a song to a singer's vocal range.

How to use Chord transposer

  1. Paste your chord sheet with chords above the lyrics.
  2. Choose the new key or the number of semitones to shift.
  3. Copy the transposed sheet, and check the capo suggestion if you play guitar.

Frequently asked questions

How does a capo change the key?

Each fret of the capo raises the pitch by one semitone. Play the same shapes with the capo on fret 2 and the song sounds two semitones higher than written.

Will sharps or flats be used in the result?

The tool picks a spelling that suits the new key, so you may see flats in some keys and sharps in others. The sounds are the same, only the names differ.

Why does my layout shift after transposing?

A new chord name can be longer or shorter, so it takes a different amount of room. Paste the sheet with simple spaces, using a monospaced font where possible, so chords stay above the right words.
