About BPM to delay time calculator

Delay time in milliseconds is 60000 divided by the BPM for a quarter note. The tool also gives eighth, sixteenth, dotted (times 1.5) and triplet (times 2/3) values, plus reverb pre-delay suggestions. Setting delays to the tempo keeps echoes locked to the groove.

How to use BPM to delay time calculator

  1. Type the tempo of your song in BPM.
  2. Read the delay and reverb times in milliseconds for each note value.
  3. Copy the time you need into your plugin.

Frequently asked questions

How do I calculate delay time from BPM?

Divide 60000 by the tempo to get a quarter note in milliseconds. At 120 BPM that is 500 ms. Halve it for eighth notes, multiply by 1.5 for dotted.

What is the difference between dotted and triplet delay times?

A dotted note lasts one and a half times as long as the straight note, giving a longer, rolling echo. A triplet is two thirds as long, giving a bouncy feel.

Which note value should I choose for a vocal delay?

A quarter or eighth note is a common starting point, because the echoes land in time with the beat. Try dotted eighth for a more spacious feel and adjust by ear.
