About Compare texts (diff)

Paste two versions of a text and see exactly what was added, removed or changed, highlighted line by line. Useful for comparing contract drafts, code snippets, config files and edited articles. Small invisible differences, such as trailing spaces, show up too and can explain odd mismatches.

How to use Compare texts (diff)

  1. Paste the old version in one box and the new version in the other.
  2. Run the comparison.
  3. Read the highlighted additions and removals.

Frequently asked questions

Does the comparison ignore small whitespace changes?

You can choose whether spaces and case count. Ignoring them hides cosmetic edits, while showing them reveals trailing spaces and tab changes that may matter in code.

What do the colours mean?

Usually one colour marks text that was removed from the first version and another marks text added in the second. Unmarked text is the same in both.

Can I compare code or only prose?

It compares any plain text, including code, lists and notes. For long files, paste one section at a time so the differences stay easy to read.

Is Compare texts (diff) free?

Yes. Compare texts (diff) on Toolipedia is free to use, with no sign-up and no watermark.
