How do I replace only whole words?
Turn on the whole word option, so that replacing cat will not change category or concatenate. With regex you can get the same result using word boundaries around the term.
What is regex mode for?
Regex lets you match patterns instead of exact words, for example any number or any word that starts with a given letter. It is powerful but easy to get wrong, so test on a small sample first.
Is the search case sensitive?
Check the case option before replacing. If it is on, Apple will not match apple. Turn it off to replace every spelling, or leave it on for exact matches only.
