About UUID generator

Generate random UUIDs (version 4) for database keys, test data and unique identifiers, one at a time or in bulk. A UUID is a 128-bit number written as 36 characters; the chance of two random UUIDs being the same is practically zero.

How to use UUID generator

  1. Choose version 4 for random IDs, or version 7 for time-ordered IDs.
  2. Set how many UUIDs you need.
  3. Generate and copy them.

Frequently asked questions

Can two UUIDs ever be the same?

In theory yes, in practice no. You would have to generate billions per second for many years to have a realistic chance of a duplicate.

What is the difference between UUID and GUID?

They are the same thing. GUID is the name Microsoft uses; UUID is the standard name.

When should I use UUID v7 instead of v4?

Version 7 starts with a timestamp, so new IDs sort in creation order. That helps database indexes, while v4 is fully random and reveals nothing.

Can I use uppercase or remove the hyphens?

UUIDs are case insensitive, so both are valid. If a system expects a specific form, adjust the case and hyphens after copying.

Is UUID generator free?

Yes. UUID generator on Toolipedia is free to use, with no sign-up and no watermark.

Is it safe to use?

Yes. Everything is worked out in your browser, and nothing you enter is sent to our server.

Does it work on my phone?

Yes. It works in any modern browser on Android and iPhone, as well as on tablets and computers. There's nothing to install.

No. Just open the page and use the tool. There's no sign-up and no email needed.

Yes. Use the Embed on your site button under the tool to copy a short piece of code and paste it into your page. It is free, needs no account, and the tool keeps working inside your page.
