About Ratio calculator
Reduce a ratio to its simplest form, see each side as a share of the whole and scale it up or down. A ratio of 16:9 stays 16:9 at any size, so it is also handy for screen sizes. Dividing both terms by their GCD gives the simplified version.
How to use Ratio calculator
- Enter the two parts of your ratio, for example 24 and 36.

Frequently asked questions
How do I simplify the ratio 24:36?
Divide both numbers by their greatest common divisor, 12. That leaves 2:3. As shares, that is 40 percent and 60 percent of the total.
How do I compare ratios with different units?
Convert both sides to the same unit first. A ratio of 2 hours to 30 minutes should be entered as 120 to 30, which simplifies to 4 to 1.
Can I use this for aspect ratios?
