About PDF attachments

PDFs can carry other files inside them, like spreadsheets, photos or source documents, often unnoticed. This tool lists and saves those embedded files, or attaches new ones to your PDF. Check attachments before sharing a document, as they may include data you did not mean to send.

How to use PDF attachments

  1. Open a PDF to list any files embedded inside it.
  2. Pick the attachments you want and save them to your device.
  3. Or choose files to attach and download the PDF that now carries them.

Frequently asked questions

Where are attachments stored in a PDF?

They are embedded in the file itself and shown in the attachments panel of some viewers, often a paperclip icon. Many viewers hide this panel, so attachments are easy to miss.

Why is my PDF showing no attachments?

Many PDFs have none. Some viewers show paperclip comments on a page, which are different from embedded files. If the list is empty, the file simply has nothing hidden inside it.

Does attaching a file change how the PDF looks?

No, the pages stay exactly the same. The attached file travels inside the PDF and is only visible in viewers that show attachments. Remember that the file size grows by the size of what you attach.
