About Net to gross pay calculator

Converts gross pay to take-home pay, or works backwards to the gross pay needed for a target net amount. Because tax rises with income, the relationship is not a flat percentage, so negotiating a net figure still needs a gross number on the contract.

How to use Net to gross pay calculator

  1. Choose gross to net, or net to gross.
  2. Enter the pay amount and your total tax rate.
  3. Read the take-home pay, or the gross pay you need for a target net.

Frequently asked questions

How do I get from net to gross pay?

Divide the net amount by (1 - total tax and deduction rate). At a 25 percent total rate, 3,000 net needs 4,000 gross.

Why not just add the tax rate to the net amount?

Tax is a share of the gross, not of the net. To net 700 at a 30% rate you need 1,000 gross, not 910.

What should the tax rate include?

Use your combined rate for income tax and payroll deductions. A rough effective rate gives only a rough result.
