About JSON diff

Paste two JSON documents and see every added, removed and changed value together with its path, such as user.address.city. It ignores formatting and key order, so you compare data and not whitespace. Useful for comparing API responses before and after a change, or two config files.

How to use JSON diff

  1. Paste the first JSON document in the left box.
  2. Paste the second JSON document in the right box.
  3. Read the list of added, removed and changed values with their paths.

Frequently asked questions

Does key order matter when comparing JSON?

In JSON objects it does not, because they are unordered. Array order does matter, so reordered items show up as differences.

How are arrays compared?

Arrays are compared position by position, so inserting an item at the start can show many changes. Sort the arrays first if order is not important.

Why does the diff show a change when values look the same?

The types can differ, for example the number 5 and the text 5. Check quotes and whitespace in the values.

Is JSON diff free?

Yes. JSON diff on Toolipedia is free to use, with no sign-up and no watermark.
