Frequently asked questions

Do the weights have to add up to 100?

Not necessarily. The tool divides by the total weight, so partial coursework still gives a correct current grade, as long as every score has a weight.

How is a weighted grade calculated?

Multiply each score by its weight, add the results, and divide by the total weight. A 90 worth 40% and an 80 worth 60% give 84.

Why is my weighted grade lower than my plain average?

Heavier items pull the result more. A low score on a high-weight exam can outweigh several high scores on small assignments.
