About Instrument tuner

Pick your instrument and play a string near the microphone. The tuner shows the note it hears, how many cents sharp or flat it is, and a needle that centers when you are in tune. Standard guitar tuning is E A D G B E, and ukulele is G C E A.

How to use Instrument tuner

  1. Allow microphone access and choose your instrument.
  2. Play one open string and watch the note name and needle.
  3. Tighten or loosen the string until the needle sits in the middle.

Frequently asked questions

What does cents mean on a tuner?

A cent is one hundredth of a semitone. A reading of plus 10 means the string is slightly sharp, so loosen it a little.

Why does the tuner jump between notes?

Background noise or a string that is still ringing from another one can confuse it. Mute the other strings, play one note clearly, and let it sound for a moment.

Should I tune up to the note or down to it?

Tune up to the target note. If you pass it, loosen the string below the note and tighten again, since this helps the string hold its pitch.
