Why do my iPhone photos not open on Windows?
iPhones save pictures in the HEIC format, which many Windows programs and websites cannot open. Converting to JPG makes them work everywhere.
Can I stop my iPhone from using HEIC?
Yes. On the iPhone open Settings, Camera, Formats and choose Most Compatible. New photos will then be saved as JPG.
Will the JPG be bigger than the HEIC?
Usually yes. HEIC compresses more efficiently, so the same picture often takes more space as a JPG. That is the price of wider compatibility.
Are Live Photos converted?
The tool converts the still image. The short video that belongs to a Live Photo is a separate file and is not turned into a moving picture.
